Extreme Makeover Home Edition

Jeremy and Jennifer were struggling to take care of each other and their family in their cramped and crumbling home. With two disabled family members, the small home prevented both Jeremy and Jacob from being able to move freely about the house. Because Jeremy is too weak to help move Jacob from room to room, Jennifer must carry Jacob throughout the house and as Jacob gets bigger, that would become impossible. In addition, the foundation of the home is cracked and sinking, one of the lower retaining walls is broken, and their leaking air conditioner has infected their walls with mold.

This is where ABC television series “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” team and hundreds of local volunteers built a new home for the Williams family.  Jeremy can now make the most of his time with his family and Jacob can grow up comfortably and independently.

The Williams family went on vacation to Adaptive Sports Center in Crested Butte, Colorado, while “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” team leader Ty Pennington, designers Michael Moloney, Paul DiMeo, and Tracy Hutson, local builders along with national builders Nationwide Homes and Palm Harbor Homes, and community volunteers rebuilt their home.

The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition also rebuilt the Greenville High School field house. Greenville is a small 1A program with very little money to support the team. EMHE not only rebuilt the weight room and the locker room, but also Coach Williams’ office. Inside the office, they placed a large empty trophy case. Right where a State Championship trophy could be placed. Williams was recently named the Atlanta Falcons’ High School Coach of the Week for Nov. 23, and his was voted Sports Story of the Year for 2009 by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

This past year, NFL star Michael Oher and his adoptive family, the Tuohy’s, had their inspirational story told on the silver screen in the Oscar nominated movie “The Blind Side.” Now, Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Michael Oher and his adoptive father, Sean Tuohy Sr., mother, Leigh Anne Tuohy, sister, Collins Tuohy, and brother, Sean Tuohy Jr., were also the celebrity volunteers for this build. In addition, special guests including ESPN football analysts Herm Edwards, Mark Schlereth, Mark May, and Desmond Howard, along with Disney Channel’s “Handy Manny” star Wilmer Valderrama, will be dropping in to help out.
